Battambang

Today we explored Battambang. We rode the 'Bamboo Train' and went on a 30km bike ride in temperatures hotter than the sun LOL. It seemed like such a good idea while sitting on my leather lounge with the air-conditioner running.
The bike tour was called the 'Local Livelihoods Tour' and is run by university students. The kids loved the tour and it really showed them how hard it is to earn a living in Cambodia. The tour reminded me how much my Va Gee Gee hurts after riding a bike for 4 hours....

Sticky Rice in Bamboo - delicious!

  1. The Bamboo train cart should have RIP on the front not VIP! Only 2 chances this would ever be seen back in Oz ... It was interesting though even if it was a bit tough on the clacker. The Butterfly livelihoods tour was fabulous, with the 2 Cambodian students that were our guides being very friendly, informative and fun. The most interesting new fact learnt for me was that the rice wine dude made his own 'special recipe' yeast for fermenting his wine. It was a real shame that sampling was compulsory with even the kids trying a bit. The locals reckon Tom is 18 anyway so it's all good. My Chinese friend would have loved the 'weird mushed up fish stuff' and the sticky rice. :) I must look like a behemoth though perusing the pictures of me next to the locals.
