Middle of nowhere in Laos

We left the sanctuary of Luang Prabang and travelled to Nong Khiaw today. I've decided that Luang Prabang is not really an Asian City, it's too clean and tidy, however Asia has now slapped me in the forehead again.... It took 4 hours to arrive here on a very bumpy, windy, dusty, dirty road. It was so bumpy we had to hang onto the seats in front of us! Basically we left Luang Prabang, took a right turn and headed for whoop whoop ville.... and here we are in the middle of nowhere. This is a very small town, so small in fact that when I booked accommodation, 8 months ago, I had to book 2 separate places. Tonight we are at Nong Khiaw Riverside and tomorrow we move to Mandala Ou. Haven't seen any tuk tuk's yet so the locals will get a treat watching 6 very white people dragging their luggage from one side of town to the other.

Giving of Alms Ceremony

Our last day in Luang Prabang was very relaxing. We had massages, hung out with Monks at the library, purchased some books for the local children and just chilled at a café overlooking the river. Oh! and this morning we got up at a ridiculous hour in the freezing cold to see the 'giving of alms' ceremony, which Emily and Tom decided to participate in. Tomorrow we move onto Nong Khiaw then Luang Namtha so I may have not have internet again until we hit Thailand......

The kids have fallen in love with the 'fruit shakes', they are having a couple per day, they aren't allowed to have the alcohol ones though LOL.

The night markets are fabulous, I purchased a necklace tonight - Emily's comment was that it would match my hat..... I think it's spectacular.

My favourite Laos street food - small pancakes that are still mushy in the middle, served in banana leaf, for the huge price of 80cents!

More Luang Prabang

Luang Prabang has it all. Amazing Wat's, fantastic food, great shopping, cool waterfalls.... What more could you want?

Luang Prabang

We flew to Luang Prabang this morning which was well worth the $100 each. The alternative is a 12 hour bus ride over huge mountainous - hell no! Luang Prabang to so pretty and very flat. We rode bicycles around for most of the day exploring, eating and much to the kids delight visiting more temples.
